on health, body care and other hemp
and cannabis related matters.
Refined hemp seed oil vs. Cold pressed hemp seed oil vs. RSO/Hemp oil vs. CBD oil... Do you know the difference?
KNOW YOUR OILS!!!!
From 1850 to 1937, cannabis was used as the prime medicine for more than 100 separate illnesses or diseases in US pharmacopeia.
There is some tricky marketing going on regarding "Hemp Oil" some companies are marketing their products as containing "hemp oil" (which is the medicinal oil made from the buds or "flowers" of the Cannabis plant) and in actuality it is "hemp seed oil" - so it is important to know your oils and their differences and read the labels carefully.
The jar on the left is "refined" hemp seed oil.
Refined hempseed oil is clear and colorless, with little flavor and lacks natural vitamins and antioxidants. Refined hempseed oil is primarily used in body care products. Industrial hempseed oil is used in lubricants, paints, inks, fuel, and plastics. Hempseed oil has found some limited use in the production of soaps, shampoos and detergents.
The jar on the right is "cold pressed" hemp seed oil. The "cold pressed" process retains ALL of the vital nutrients, vitamins and minerals, it is a beautiful emerald color and is a bit thicker than the refined oil. About 30–35% of the weight of hempseed is an edible oil that contains about 80% as essential fatty acids (EFAs); i.e., linoleic acid, omega-6 (LA, 55%), alpha-linolenic acid, omega-3 (ALA, 22%), in addition to gamma-linolenic acid, omega-6 (GLA, 1–4%) and stearidonic acid, omega-3 (SDA, 0–2%).
Cold pressed hemp seed oil also provides an adequate supply of antioxidants (Vitamin E), carotene (precursor to Vitamin A), phytosterols, phospholipids and a number of minerals including calcium, magnesium, sulfur, potassium, phosphorus, along with modest amounts of iron and zinc. Hemp seed oil also provides a good source of chlorophyll. The daily recommended allowance of cold pressed hemp seed oil or hemp seeds is 1 to 2 tablespoons a day.

This is the medicinal RSO (Rick Simpson Oil) "Hemp Oil" or "Hash Oil" it is used to treat seizures, shrink tumors. cure cancer and a whole multitude of illnesses and diseases. It is a thick, dark brown (almost black color), gooey oil.
Hash oil, not to be confused with hempseed oil, is used for both medicinal and recreational purposes and made from the mature female flowers and leaves of the herb cannabis, thus having a much higher THC content. Hash oil should not be confused with hemp, as the modern usage of the word 'hemp' is reserved for plants that meet the legal requirement of containing 0.3% THC or less.
RSO is a cannabis plant extract and technique that was reintroduced to the public by Rick Simpson so anyone could easily produce the oil for themselves.
Rick Simpson Oil has also been known as “honey oil”. Honey oil is commonly smoked in a pipe on a bed of ashes or smeared across a rolling paper, producing a powerful impact that can last many hours.
Part of the Rick Simpson revelation was that to treat serious medical conditions, you have to eat this gooey extract or apply it directly to your skin. It is made exclusively from high quality female cannabis, containing at least 20 percent THC or more.
Industrial hemp is grown all around the world. In Canada, hemp is grown specifically to contain very little THC. Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) should not be confused with hemp oil products like “Real Scientific Hemp Oil” (RSHO), a product actually made from industrial hemp available in the United States with concentrations of CBD.
An unfortunate trend over the last couple of years has led to an increase in Rick Simpson oil hustlers, spamming social media; trolling forums and filling up the comments section of blog articles like those found on the Cannabis Digest. These secretive spammers tend to deliver hope to those with advanced cancers and leave an email address to contact the supplier of the oil. Contacting these people is not advised; instead, for those with a serious medical condition seeking to use a cannabis oil, it is suggested you make the oil yourself or trust the person you are getting the oil from.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of at least 85 active cannabinoids identified in cannabis. It is a major phytocannabinoid, accounting for up to 40% of the plant's extract. CBD is considered to have a wider scope of potential medical applications than tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are the two main ingredients in the marijuana plant. Both CBD and THC belong to a unique class of compounds known as cannabinoids.
While many strains of marijuana are known for having abundant levels of THC, high-CBD strains are less common. But CBD has recently started to draw attention from the medical community, who seem to prefer CBD over THC.
The fact that CBD-rich cannabis doesn’t get one high makes it an appealing treatment option for patients seeking anti-inflammatory, anti-pain, anti-anxiety, anti-psychotic, and/or anti-spasm effects without troubling lethargy or dysphoria.
In addition to being non-psychoactive, CBD seems to have antipsychotic properties. Researchers believe that CBD may protect marijuana users from getting too high by reducing the psychosis-like effects of THC. However, regulating the mind-altering activity of THC isn’t all that CBD is good for. On its own, CBD is being tested as an antipsychotic medicine for people with schizophrenia.
Be aware that all cannabinoids (THC, CBD, and beyond) have a medical benefit, and it’s important to research which strains contain which levels of cannabinoids, and what cannabinoids are best suited for the particular conditions you are trying to treat.
